Enable Text Expansion in the Stock Google Keyboard

Enable Text Expansion in the Stock Google KeyboardAndroid: There have already been some pretty great text expansion apps for Android. However, if you're using the stock Android keyboard, you don't need to look any farther than Settings.
Technically, the feature is hidden under "Personal dictionary." Here you can enter your own terms, as well as find the ones you've already added. When you edit/create a new word or phrase, though, you have the option to create a shortcut. Once you set up the shortcut, your expanded words will appear as autocorrect suggestions as you type the shortcut phrase.

Warmly Wakes You Up Gently, Encourages Better Sleep Hygiene

Android: Warmly is an alarm clock app for Android that wakes you up gently and smoothly in the morning. It starts quiet, before you need to get up, and slowly raises the volume of your selected wake-up sound. When you're ready to get up, Warmly shows you the weather and gives you a good start to your day.
watch this video for full walkthrough app's features, it's just a bit long. You can select the wake-up sound you want, whether it's the sound of frying eggs and breakfast being made, brewing coffee, a bustling airport, or a simple morning meditation. Five minutes before you're supposed to be up, the alarm will start playing your sound from really low volume, and slowly ramp it up until you hear it, turn off the alarm, and get up. It'll even get the local weather and temperature for you.
It's worth noting that the app doesn't have multi-day alarms, either: the goal is to promote good sleep hygeine by waking up at the same time every day—a tip we've mentioned before. You can snooze the alarm, if you must. Plus, the alarm features an auto-off after 15 minutes, so if you forget it and aren't around to turn it off, your neighbors or roommates won't hate you when you get back. Warmly is $2 at Google Play.

Wallaby Tells You the Best Credit Card to Use Wherever You're Shopping

wallaby-android-recommendation

Android/iOS/Web: Swiping the wrong credit card could mean missing out on valuable rewards, points, or cash back. Wallaby makes sure that doesn't happen to you by telling you which card in your wallet is the best one to use, for any location you're shopping or dining at.Like webapp Reward Boost, the mobile Wallaby apps only require you to choose the cards you own; your credit card numbers aren't needed. You can then see a list of places around you (powered by Foursquare) and tap any of them to get the recommended card to use for that location. It even works with cards that have rotating cash back categories (which can be hard to keep track of). I cycle between four and five credit cards, depending on the location type, and Wallaby correctly identified the ones with the highest rewards across groceries, gas, restaurants, pharmacy, and general shopping.

Earbits Offers Fast, Completely Free Streaming Music

Web/Android: With all the talk of streaming music services vying for your headphone time, it's easy to overlook some of the ones that are simple, fun, and pump out a stream of good, interesting music when you fire them up. Earbits is one of those services, and it's available for Android and the web, completely free.

On your Android device, Earbits will scan your device for music and load up blended channels and radio stations that combine your music with the free songs that Earbits has to offer. On the web, you just click "Listen to Editor's Picks" or "Browse Channels" to start the music, no questions, no sign-ups (unless you want to save your preferences), no hassle. Browsing channels takes you to a tiled selection of genres, each with their own subgenres that you can select to further narrow the songs Earbits plays for you, but at most it's two or three clicks before the music starts flowing.
From there, Earbits works like some of the other great, underrated music services we've mentioned—your play history is in the sidebar, you can favorite songs to make note of them, and you can sign up for an artist's mailing list, like their Facebook page, or otherwise connect with them right from the song you're listening to. When you do, you earn "Groovies," a currency that lets you play specific songs whenever you like, bypassing the radio feature. Best of all, Earbits is completely free.
Hit the link below to try it out, or grab the Android app from Google Play. When I tested it out, I found the Android app was particularly useful at generating blended stations that fit all of my music tastes together in one. It helps that the Android app is really good looking, too.

CPU-Z Tells You Everything About Your Phone's CPU, Battery, and More

CPU-Z Tells You Everything About Your Phone's CPU, Battery, and More
Android: Getting detailed information about your device isn't always easy. Apps like Speccy help on the desktop, and now CPU-Z can do the same for your phone or tablet.
The app requires Android 3.0 and above (sorry Gingerbread users). Once installed it will give you extensive information about your device, including display resolution, SoC architecture, active RAM usage, battery health, temperature, and a ton more. In most cases, this app will probably be overkill, but if you've ever needed to know what kernel architecture your device uses, CPU-Z has your back.

Top 7 Apps To Earn Money With Your Android Device

So you just got a shiny new Android phone or tablet over the holidays. You’ve already run through the “must have” apps lists out there and you’re looking for something new. Or maybe you’re a long time user and just looking to earn a bit of side money or a Google Play gift card. We’ve rounded up a handful of apps where you can earn real money or other rewards doing simple activities on your Android phone or tablet.
Money making apps fall into a few basic categories, and there’s often crossover between the various apps. Pay-Per-Install are exactly what it sounds like, you get paid to install sponsored apps. Shopping apps are intended to work in conjunction with your shopping trips when you’re already out and about, they’re often GPS depended, so don’t think you can earn from your couch. Video apps pay you for watching videos, and most of these apps tend to have some video component. And lastly, for lack of a better description, there are apps where you perform “tasks” for points, which could be anything from liking a page on Facebook to registering for a website or taking a survey.

APP Review: Disable Service is an app to free-up RAM and improve Battery Life

android background servicesSo called background services are running on any Android device. They can be divided up into services run by system apps and applications that you have installed on the device. These services have a wide variety of purposes, from retrieving data from the Internet to running as a widget on the device. These background services are usually needed for the application or system to function properly, and disabling them would render the functionality useless.
Sometimes though you may want to disable select services for the time being or permanently in the case of system apps that you can't uninstall but do not use at all.

That's where the free Android app Disable Service comes into play. It can be installed on all Android devices running version 2.2 or higher of the operating system. Note that while you can use it to display all the background services that apps use on the device, it requires root to actually disable them.

ReadItToMe for Android reads SMS, Calls and App Notifications to you

read it to meIf you like to listen to music or audiobooks a lot using your Android phone, you have likely encountered situations in the past where you received messages, calls or notifications but did not really want to look at the phone at that moment in time. Maybe because you were jogging and did not want to stop, or in a crowded place and you felt that it would be inappropriate to take out your phone.
There are numerous reasons why you do not want to look at the phone at a specific moment in time. It can be something as simple as being in a conversation with someone or driving your car where you should not look at your phone let alone take it in your hand and use it.
ReadItToMe is a Android application that can assist you in the majority of those situations. The apps' basic feature is the option to read information to you if certain requirements are met. What those are? That's up to you and definable in the program's preferences. To give you one example: you can configure the application to read all SMS messages that you receive if headphones are connected to the phone, all Whatsapp messages when the phone is connected to Bluetooth (think Car), and even use it to reply to SMS with your voice after the message has been read to you.

Find out why apps are incompatible with your Android device

this app is incompatible with yourI'm browsing Google's Play store for apps regularly. I do not really like the store's layout that much as it is difficult to find new apps that have just been released. I have the same issue with Google's Chrome Web Store by the way, where you can't sort by date as well. You do end up with a selection of "trending" apps that Google displays to you but that is about it.

The overview displays an about this app section that lists the required Android version which can act as an indicator why an app may not be compatible with your device. If it requires Android 4.x or higher, and your device is running Android 2.x or 3.x, you know why it is not compatible.

While not as popular as the aforementioned WordPress (Alexa #21) and Tumblr (Alexa #32), Weebly (Alexa #301 and Google PageRank of 8) claims to have over 12 million users and is a force to be reckoned with.
Unfortunately, users have had to sign into the website through a web browser to do everything, until now. A few days ago, Weebly launched its official Android app, which brings basic site management, posting capabilities, visitor statistics, and push notifications for comments and form entries.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean: Google Could Announce this Very Version At Google I/O 2013

Google will surely announce the next version to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at Google I/O 2013. Historically, it was seen that Google I/O proved to be a perfect platform to announce either new hardware or standalone software releases. Such was the case last year when Google announced Android 4.2 Jelly Bean along with Nexus 7 at Google I/O 2012. Now the whole world is waiting to see Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) to be announced officially at Google I/O 2013.
Until now, it was believed that Google is almost ready to announce Key Lime Pie along with Motorola X, the Nexus 5, and lastly an improvised version of Nexus 7. Google bans self-updating Android apps, possibly including Facebook’s

Facebook end run around Google Play store followed by change in Google policy.

About six weeks ago, users of Facebook's Android application noticed that they were being asked to install a new version—without going to the Google Play app store.
Android is far more permissive than iOS regarding the installation of third-party applications, even allowing installation from third-party sources if the user explicitly allows it. However, it's unusual for applications delivered through the official Google store to receive updates outside of the store's updating mechanism.
Google has now changed the Google Play store polices in an apparent attempt to avoid Facebook-like end runs around store-delivered updates. Under the "Dangerous Products" section of the Google Play developer policies, Google now states that "[a]n app downloaded from Google Play may not modify, replace or update its own APK binary code using any method other than Google Play's update mechanism." A Droid-Life article says the language update occurred Thursday. APK (standing for application package file) is the file format used to install applications on Android.

Must-have Android app, AirDroid, adds remote access and more in AirDroid 2

AirDroid 2

SUMMARY:
My pick for a must-have Android app in 2013 was AirDroid, but now I have to update that selection. It was just displaced with AirDroid 2 which adds remote phone access over 3G/4G and more features
If you’ve been using AirDroid, which I deemed an app every Android owner should try in 2013, you already know the software is great. With it, you can manage your phone, move files to or from it, change ringtones and more right from the browser of a computer on the same Wi-Fi network. AirDroid 2 is now available in Google Play and it gets even better with more features such as the ability to access your Android smartphone over a mobile broadband network.

The fastest Android gaming tablets

Which Android tablets provide the smoothest gaming experience? CNET Labs delves deep to find out.
The development of new chips that deliver zippier performance, smoother gaming, faster Web surfing, and longer-lasting battery life will soon make their way into new Android tablets. While chips themselves and the high-end tablets that will house them, have yet to be released, we have it on good authority that they'll deliver on their promise.
Gaming is an increasingly popular way tablet owners are spending time with their devices and chip makers are paying attention. While the gaming experience on Android tablets has improved by leaps and bounds in just the last year, it's bound to only get faster, smoother, and prettier (and hopefully even more fun).

Paranoid Android team bringing multi-window mode to Android

Paranoid Android is a custom version of Android that’s been pushing the boundaries of the platform for a while. The developers were among the first to let users decide on a per-app basis whether to use the tablet or smartphone version of various apps. And Paranoid Android’s PIE menu reinvents the Android button and notification scheme.
Now the team is working to change the way Android handles multitasking, by adding support for apps that don’t run in full-screen, and which can be viewed on top of your currently running apps.
